Project 3: Home Interior Remodelling

The Challenge:

• To work with a young couple to create a cohesive design and update an entire split-level home caught in the early 80s, while keeping in mind practical entertaining and small children.

Before:

Key Design Features:

• Open spaces and clear sight lines
• Simple, contemporary and comfortable lifestyle keeping furnishings and accessories to a minimum and featuring treasures from extensive world travels

The Solution:

• Remove walls resulting in the ability to alter the footprint of common spaces
• Replace dated and bulky oak railings with glass panels to keep sight lines unobstructed
• Replace and enlarge windows and sliding doors to allow more natural light in
• Develop a lighting plan with consideration not only to basic task lighting, but also to feature unique fixtures

Some of my favourite features are the custom display cabinet and shelf space in the living room (which David filled with treasures from our travels and we continue to add to) , the addition of a large kitchen window that brings tons of light and soothing natural views indoors, and a sleek family bathroom. The transformation was stunning.

Today thanks to David's foresight, our home continues to serve us well and wows visitors. They say surviving major renovations is one of life's big challenges. Not only did we survive and come out the other end with a fantastic finished product, but we would absolutely work with him again on any future projects.
